He also made the comment that there are more features to be added to the app. That will be interesting.

My JW (converts of about 5 years) came over on Thursday and ate a turkey dinner with us. We didn't call it Thanksgiving, but that was obviously what it was. They were proud to give me my own copy of the new revised and improved NWT Bible. I admired the quality with them, and thanked them for bringing it to me. I guess they now have a whole stack of them at the KH, due to backorders that were filled for people who already got their copy at the annual meeting.
My dad was telling me about the JW Library app for the iPad. I admitted that I already had it, and had explored it a little bit. We talked about how cool it was. He made the same statement 3 times during this short conversation: "I don't know, they are smarter than me," when he was marveling at the features on this new app.
This statement is unusual for the father who raised me. I am a lot like him, and I like to think for myself. I know he's getting older, in his late 60's now, but I find this curious. I did not comment on it, but was supportive of all he said. I will have JW-related conversations and seed planting at other times then his agreeing to come to my house for a pagan celebration. I was glad he came over, and didn't want him to leave with any feeling but approval and love from me.
Going along with some other comments people have made recently, I wanted to add this observation. He has clearly submitted to the organization and the authority of the governing body. Since he repeated this particular statement 3 times, I don't think it was his own. He must have picked that line up from someone at the KH.
They are not smarter than you!!
My mom has actually agreed to stop by sometime during our CHRISTMAS celebration weekend at my house, and my dad might come also! This is huge, so I am not going to even say a word about anything JW until the new year. (After that, game is back on!)

I do think she may have had an "Oh shoot" moment, when she got to Matthew 6:4.
When I had mentioned that Jesus told us to practice our righteousness in secret, she said, "He never said that!"
She was a very nice lady, and I would love the chance to talk to her again. I find it interesting that they keep sending different JW's to my door. Why is it never the same person?

Smiddy: She was very resistant to the idea that the time card was in any way a report to men for recognition. I let her wander a lot in her conversation with me, but refused to take any of the bait she threw out there for me with the WT lies. Instead, I marvelled at the way she jumped from topic to topic, when she didn't want to answer my question.
I kept asking her why the hours were reported. I asked her what would happen if she didn't turn in a time card? When she denied that it mattered, I asked her if she was a pioneer. "Is it true that you have to report a certain number of hours in order to maintain the different titles and levels in the organization?" I confessed that I'd never filled out a time card, since I never had the privilege of doing field service work.
She said, "My daughter is a pioneer, and she agrees to do a certain number of hours each month. She works part time, so she can do 70 hours of service work each month." She didn't say it with a prideful tone of voice, but I did react when I heard that figure. Honestly, I never realized. I guess I never asked.
She then told me how it didn't matter if you were a pioneer or an elder. "We are all the same. No one is treated any differently within the congregation." I nodded and agreed. :| She made several disturbing statements that my husband jumped at, while I was repeating the story... trying to bait me into changing the subject.
I know the time card is a minute detail, that they are trained to not even think twice about. They just do it. She was totally thrown by my bringing it up, not because I knew about it, but because it had nothing to do with anything Jesus said. I'm hoping that next time she fills out that card and turns it in, a thought might pass through her mind about it. They are keeping track of your work. The men are keeping track of your efforts.
(There was no mention of it being an estimation of her spiritual health, as has been suggested in my other thread, asking this same question. Thank you, SFPW, for preparing me for this visit by the JW at my door. I appreciate and value your insight.)

If she comes back, I will make refreshments. 2 days before Thanksgiving, and a house in chaos, was really an inconvenient time for me.
It is almost spooky, the timing that they have with me. I was just this morning, telling my husband I need to stop thinking so much about the JW's. I have so many other things to worry about in my OWN life... they keep getting sent to my door at the most inopportune times!
I definitely made some mistakes, but I did much better than I did with the last guy. I don't mind her thinking it was a success for her. It was a pleasure to meet her, and I hope she will come back. I have a lot of questions. 8-)

I'm so happy that they came while I was home, and I was prepared for the knock on my door.
I greeted a very nice JW lady on my doorstep. She wanted to give me a pamphlet about whether the dead will live again. As soon as she pulled it out of her folder, I clasped my hands behind my back and smiled politely.
She opened the pamphlet and pointed to one of the verses that was quoted about being resurrected on earth. I nodded and listened to her for a minute or two. She didn't seem to be in a big hurry, so I let her use up some time on me.
We hopped to a couple of different topics. I'm still not good at keeping myself focused, let alone trying to stay on a single topic with a JW. I told her I am a bible student myself, and gave her a quick overview of my history with the JW's. (studied for long time, but didn't join. My parents did, and now our family is divided).
She insisted on the belief that Jehovah needs an organization on earth. I asked her where that was in the Bible. She showed me some verses about gathering together. I didn't push that issue, because I had something more pertinent to what she was doing today. She was out on her campaign, trying to get these pamphlets dropped at every house, and keeping track of each one placed. I asked her to look something up in the bible for me at Matthew 6:1-4. Do not practice your righteousness in front of men to be recognized by them.
I asked her why do you write it all down on a card and turn it into your organization each month? She denied that had anything to do with what Jesus said. We talked a little bit about it. It is pretty cold out there, and I was shivering on my doorstep. She mentioned that her daughter was a pioneer. I asked her what would happen if you told them you weren't going to turn in a time card this month. She had no answer, then she shook her head and looked confused, like what does that matter? This is what we do to show our love for Jehovah. I again questioned the cards that men keep on file, recording your work each month.
She offered me a chance to restart my bible study. I said I might.
She offered me the pamphlet again.
I told her I would let her get her reward in secret for this one. "Jehovah saw you reading the Bible with me. You don't need to add another mark to your card for giving me the pamphlet. That card is a record of your work, so men can keep track of you."
I told her she was welcome to come back anytime. I hope she does.
I made some mistakes, but I think I may have planted a seed in her mind. So instead of a little tally mark on her time card for placing a magazine, she got a question she couldn't answer. :)

Are some JWs justified in staying in the org?
by greendawn inmost of us left the organisation because we could no longer stand one or other aspect of it, perhaps its very dictatorial administration, the disappointment due to the false promises and vain hopes raised by its leadership, disagreement with the blood ban or pedophile and shunning policies, the feel one gets that this is a business and not a religious organisation manipulating its members to its own profit etc etc.
these are of course valid reasons for rejecting this religion and refusing to identify with it but do the jws who stay in have a valid argument for rejecting leaving the org?
they will say: "ok our religion, our society has its flaws but what human society doesn't?

I think EdenOne is onto something. I am not inside, but will continue to read the publications, so I can see at least part of what my family is being forced to believe this week. It is pretty evident that they are planning something inhumane.
My mother should stay in, to protect my niece from her abusive father, and from even more potential abuse inside the KH.

first T-day dinner this year

I can't say that I've ever had more than one Thanksgiving dinner per year... I feel like such an underachiever now!
Thanks for the entertaining story. I love sing-alongs!
